Fourteen Years Later
“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12 (The Message)
Today marks 14 years of saying “I do” to my best friend. Fourteen years filled with love, tears, laughter, and everything in between. It’s a milestone that brings reflection—not just on the journey we’ve been on as a couple, but on the foundation we’ve built as a family.
Saturday night was a moment that brought it all into focus. My husband, who is a recovering alcoholic, stood in a room full of people at his AA birthday meeting to receive his six-month sobriety chip. What made this night even more special was that our daughter and I were there to witness it.
I watched as my daughter—who adores her father more than words can express—took in that moment. Her dad, her hero, standing among a community of people who truly understand the fight he’s in.
That night reminded me of the power of redemption and the beauty of transformation. The people in that room weren’t just celebrating sobriety—they were living proof of God’s grace. People who had been broken, lost, and written off now stood tall, victorious, and grateful. It was raw, it was real, and it was a reflection of God’s heart for all of us.
And our daughter got to see it. She got to witness what happens when people decide to fight for their lives, their families, and their future.
Marriage and family are about standing together. It’s about being there for the good, the bad, and the unimaginable. It’s about having Jesus at the center, knowing that even when life throws things you don’t think you can overcome, together—with Him—you are unstoppable.
Today, I’m thankful. For the journey we’ve walked. For the community we’ve built. For the God who has carried us through it all. Here’s to 14 years of grace, redemption, and love.
My prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of marriage and family. Thank You for Your grace that has carried us through every moment.
Help us to stand together in love and unity, always keeping You at the center. Strengthen our bond and remind us daily of the beauty in the journey.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
