“See what I’ve given you? Safe passage as you walk on snakes and scorpions, and protection from every assault of the Enemy. No one can put a hand on you.”
— Luke 10:19 (MSG)
I love my sister. Even though I’m four years older, she’s wise beyond her years. And not just “gives good advice” wise—I’m talking drop-the-mic, shake-your-soul, leave-you-rethinking-your-life kind of wise. Her wisdom comes from walking through some tough stuff, but more importantly, from knowing Jesus deeply.
Monday night at our women’s Bible study, she talked about authority—how we, as believers, often forget we actually have it. She shared a story about a woman in her church who came up for prayer every single week. Different request, same struggle. Until finally, my sister looked at her and said, “You need to stop needing and start stepping into your authority.”
That hit me because I was that woman.
I drive an hour and fifteen minutes to work, and an hour and fifteen minutes back home. It’s my favorite time of the day—my time with Jesus. Just me, my worship, a good sermon, and a lot of traffic. But for a long time, those drives sounded a lot different.
I used to pray like a desperate daughter—Lord, I need Your peace. Jesus, help me. God, please take this burden. Every day, it was another need, another request, another please fix this.
And then one day, it clicked: the words I speak either scare the devil or give him a blueprint for what to attack next.
That realization changed everything.
Instead of pleading for what God already promised, I started declaring His Word over my life.
I stopped asking for peace and started commanding it in Jesus’ name.
I stopped begging God to take away fear and started telling fear it had no place in me.
I stopped waiting for healing and began walking in the truth that by His wounds, I am already healed.
And once my prayers changed, my mind changed. And once my mind changed, my life began to change from the inside out.
We are not weak. We are not needy. We are not stuck.
Jesus didn’t leave us powerless—He gave us authority. But if we never use it, we’ll keep waiting for a rescue when we’ve already been equipped for the fight.
So, it’s time to stop praying like we’re barely holding on and start praying like we own the victory He already won.
Now go, and command some things to change.
My Prayer:
Jesus, I’m done praying like I’m powerless. Thank You for giving me authority through Your Spirit. I refuse to live in a constant state of help me, help me, help me. Today, I’m stepping into my authority. I declare peace. I claim healing. I stand in victory. And I trust that as I walk in faith, You will do what only You can do.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
