Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” — Psalm 46:10
I love to be busy. I thrive on work, projects, and productivity. Sitting still for more than a few minutes? Almost impossible. It’s not ADD—it’s a choice. I’ve trained myself to keep moving, always doing something.
But as I glance at my husband, comfortably sitting on the couch for hours, I realize how different we are. I’m not jealous; I know God wired us differently. But I also know this: sometimes being busy is just a form of avoidance.
When I keep myself constantly occupied, I miss out on the moments God wants to show me something. Lately, I’ve been feeling His nudge to stop and slow down. Not just to sit—but to sit with Him. Not with the TV or scrolling through my phone, but to truly pause, listen, and let my spirit be renewed.
Because here’s the truth: being busy doesn’t always mean being productive. Sometimes it’s just noise, and that noise can drown out the whisper of the Lord. God doesn’t always shout. He whispers.
So, I’ve made a challenge for myself: slow down. Prioritize my day. Create space for stillness. It’s in those quiet moments that I’ve started hearing Him more clearly, and it’s changing everything.
A Prayer for Stillness
Lord, I thank You for being a God who speaks—not just in loud and obvious ways, but in the quiet, gentle whispers. Thank You for reminding me that I don’t always have to be busy to be productive, and that true productivity is found in being in tune with You.
Help me, Lord, to slow down. Show me how to prioritize my time, to pause, and to create space for You in my day. Teach me to listen—not just in the noise of life, but in the stillness where You whisper.
Renew my spirit, Lord, and help me to rest in Your presence. Let Your voice guide me, calm me, and strengthen me for what lies ahead. I trust You, and I desire to hear You more.
In Your name!
